TxtResponsibly.org Launches New Awareness Campaign:
Be a Part of the Solution. Share Your Story.

Belfast, ME—April 28, 2010—In support of National Youth Traffic Safety Month, organized by National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS), Pica Design, LLC—Founding Sponsor of TxtResponsibly.org—is donating marketing & design expertise to create a new awareness campaign highlighting personal stories. This new campaign is an opportunity for those touched by a texting and driving incident or tragedy to share their story and raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving.

The new campaign coincides with the first National “No Phone Zone Day”, Friday, April 30th, launched by Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios.

Since launching in Spring of 2009, TxtResponsibly.org has worked to raise awareness about the growing epidemic of texting while driving. Members of the organization participated in the Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, DC in September and heard the issue debated among top technology leaders, statisticians, state and federal legislators and safety organizations. The most compelling and effective messages against texting while driving can be found in the stories of families and individuals touched by tragedy.

Amanda Umscheid’s 19-year-old sister was killed one year ago while texting. It was Amanda who was texting with her sister when the accident occurred; her guilt and sadness are constant reminders of that day. She is now sharing her story with high school and college students in her community to educate them about the dangers of texting while driving. Join Amanda and Be a part of the solution.

Pica Design, LLC Launches TxtResponsibly.org

Belfast, MaineAugust 6, 2009—Pica Design, LLC, a design and marketing agency in Belfast, has launched their first cause campaign—TxtResponsibly.org—taking action to educate the public on the dangers of texting while driving. The website is the first initiative of the campaign; the company is also creating public awareness posters (available for free download), PSAs and collateral to support the organization’s mission.

“Our staff has been shocked to see the increase in news reports citing heartbreaking stories and statistics on texting-related injuries and deaths,” said Rob Dietz, Founder and Creative Director of Pica Design. “We decided to use our skills and knowledge to raise awareness. People know they are driving while distracted, but they don’t think the dangers apply to them. They absolutely do apply, to anyone and everyone, and that’s why we started TxtResponsibly.org.”

The mission of TxtResponsibly.org is to raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving and to prevent harmful injury or death caused by the act of texting recklessly. The TxtResponsibly.org website is a place for sharing stories, where visitors can ‘Take the Oath’ (a personal promise to stop texting while driving) and read news related to distracted driving and related topics. Site content also includes public awareness posters (available for free download), information on U.S. state and federal legislation, statistics, and facts from studies and surveys conducted over the last 10+ years.

“This is not a new issue,” said Dietz, “but, mobile devices have raised the risks, especially in the case of texting while driving.” Pica Design will form strategic partnerships in the public and non-profit sectors to spread the message and keep momentum going. TxtResponsibly.org will soon expand to include a memorial wall to pay tribute to lost loved ones, and the organization has abundant ideas for expanding awareness and education campaigns.
